Flower Mound does not receive one uniform supplier stream

The Town of Flower Mound purchases treated water from Dallas Water Utilities and the Upper Trinity Regional Water District.

Dallas can draw from the Elm Fork of the Trinity River and Lakes Ray Roberts, Lewisville, Grapevine, Ray Hubbard, Tawakoni and Fork. UTRWD’s primary source context includes Lake Lewisville and Lake Chapman.

All of Flower Mound’s municipal water is surface water, but the two wholesale systems do not contribute identical source chemistry. The town’s 2024 report, published in June 2025, distinguishes results from Dallas, UTRWD and Flower Mound’s own entry points rather than flattening them into one number.

That is the correct way to understand this city: two regional treatment systems feed one local distribution system.

The town actively manages chloramine in a long distribution network

Both wholesale suppliers use chloramine. Flower Mound reports that it monitors water quality daily and flushes 329 dead-end mains each month. Dead ends receive less natural turnover, so regular flushing removes older water and particles while bringing in fresher water with a stronger disinfectant residual.

The town also explains that warm weather can make maintaining chloramine more challenging. This is not evidence that the system is failing; it is evidence that distribution water is dynamic.

A homeowner can therefore accept that chloramine is necessary for public-system protection while still preferring to reduce it before the water enters showers, fixtures and appliances.

PFAS reporting deserves precise interpretation

Flower Mound has done more public explanation of PFAS than many neighboring utilities.

The town reports that two of the six PFAS included in EPA’s 2024 rule were detected during 2023 monitoring. One PFOA sample at the Dallas delivery point exceeded 4 parts per trillion, but subsequent samples there were non-detect. The town stated that its annual PFOA average was 1.5 ppt.

In the town’s 2024 entry-point data, PFOA was non-detect at the three listed Flower Mound points, while several shorter-chain PFAS—including PFBA, PFBS, PFHxA and PFPeA—were detected at low part-per-trillion levels.

This is not a reason to claim that Flower Mound water is unsafe. It is a reason to explain the hierarchy correctly:

• Municipal monitoring shows what entered the town system.
• EPA’s enforceable PFAS requirements govern specified compounds and compliance timelines.
• EWG applies separate lower health benchmarks.
• Treatment selection depends on the specific compounds, the desired treatment location and verified performance.

For drinking and cooking water, ClaRO is the more focused platform when PFAS and other dissolved-contaminant reduction are priorities. Whole-home carbon can be relevant for selected compounds, but claims must be tied to media, flow, contact time and supporting performance data.

EWG highlights the regulatory-versus-personal-standard gap

Flower Mound’s EWG profile flags haloacetic acids and other disinfection byproducts against benchmarks far below federal MCLs. It describes HAA9 at approximately 176 times EWG’s 0.06 ppb guideline.

EWG also reports historical nitrate and chromium-6 detections. Chromium-6 was reported at an average of 0.110 ppb in 2014, compared with a 0.02 ppb California public-health goal used by EWG. That historical result should be labeled by year rather than presented as a current town measurement.

The embedded EWG profile is valuable because it shows why “no violation” is not the only physical homeowner question. It does not prove municipal wrongdoing or guarantee that one treatment device addresses every listed compound.

Treatment roles in Flower Mound

1. Water Fixers Clarion Elite

Clarion Elite controls hardness scale. Flower Mound’s annual report does not publish calcium, sodium and iron in the main table; the town notes that secondary-constituent results are available separately. A current hardness result is therefore more useful than a recycled neighborhood claim.

A local fact worth preserving: no lead or unknown service lines

Flower Mound completed an inventory of 23,904 service lines and reported none classified as lead, galvanized requiring replacement or unknown. That is meaningful local context. It does not eliminate every possible source of lead inside privately owned fixtures or plumbing, but it prevents the page from using generic lead-service-line fear where the town’s own inventory says otherwise.
