What makes Water Fixers of DFW different?+
Our process is consultative, not sales-driven. We start by understanding your water, your home's needs, and your family's concerns. We then design a system that's the right size and setup for you — never undersized, never pushing unnecessary products. It's how we make sure every family gets water that truly fits their home.
Are you licensed and insured?+
Yes. We are fully insured and hold active Texas Water Treatment Specialist licenses (including #WT0007727) with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). In Texas, anyone installing or servicing water treatment equipment in a home is required to be licensed. That protects you. It means the work is code-compliant, safe, and not just "some guy with a drill."
Do I really need a water softener in DFW?+
Most DFW city water is hard. Hard water leaves chalky film on glass, spots on fixtures, white buildup on shower doors, and it dries out skin and hair. A properly sized water softener removes those hardness minerals. Softeners are not "nice to have" here — they're the only reliable way to stop scale from forming in the first place.
What's the difference between a water softener and a whole-home filter?+
A water softener targets hardness minerals (calcium, magnesium). That protects plumbing, glass, fixtures, appliances, and how water feels on your skin. A whole-home carbon filter targets chemicals and disinfectants like chlorine and chloramines that affect taste/smell and can dry you out. They solve different problems. Most homes in DFW benefit from having both working together.
What is a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system for?+
Reverse Osmosis is a dedicated drinking water system under the sink with its own faucet. It reduces dissolved solids and contaminants like lead, arsenic, and PFAS, giving you clean, crisp water right at the tap. We install high-performance reverse osmosis systems, with USA-made options available, that usually taste better than bottled water.
Can you test my water hardness for free?+
Yes. We offer a free, straightforward water review. A licensed specialist will come out, test hardness and total dissolved solids, look at your setup, and explain what's actually happening in your water. We'll also tell you if you don't need anything. Schedule a free check.
How much does a new water system cost?+
Systems start at $1,400, but the final cost depends on your home size, plumbing layout, and what you're solving for (hardness, taste, chemicals, etc.). We size systems to the home and the family, not a "one model fits everyone" upsell. After we look at your water, we give you a straight written price with install, materials, and warranty spelled out. No surprise add-ons. Financing options are available if you prefer to spread the cost out.
How long does installation take?+
Typical installs for a softener, whole-home filter, or under-sink RO take about 3-5 hours. We keep the workspace neat, run lines cleanly, use pro-grade fittings, and walk you through how everything works before we leave.
Is soft water safe to drink?+
For most households, softened water is perfectly safe to drink. The process adds a very small amount of sodium (less than you might expect). However, we typically pair a water softener with an RO system under the sink for drinking and cooking, which removes that sodium completely. Important Professional Note: If you are on a strictly sodium-restricted diet ordered by your physician, please inform us. We can adjust the system setup (such as using potassium chloride or ensuring RO usage) to strictly meet your health needs.
What's the difference between catalytic carbon and regular activated carbon?+
DFW cities often use chloramines (chlorine + ammonia) to disinfect water. Standard activated carbon can struggle with chloramines. Catalytic carbon is more advanced media that's engineered to treat chloramines much more effectively. That's why we recommend catalytic carbon for whole-home filtration in most Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs. Read more about why sizing matters for chloramine removal.
How often do I replace RO filters?+
Most under-sink RO systems have: - Pre-filters (sediment / carbon) - The RO membrane - A post-polish filter The pre/post filters are usually replaced yearly. The RO membrane often lasts 2-3 years. We can service it for you or show you how to do it yourself in a few minutes.
What kind of equipment do you install?+
We install professional-grade systems built with trusted, industry gold-standard components that we use in our own homes. This includes Clack® control valves for softeners, high-performance RO systems with USA-made options available, and parts certified to NSF standards. We avoid proprietary "cartridge-style" systems that lock you into expensive, dealer-only service.
What kind of warranty comes with your systems?+
You will often see "Lifetime Warranty" used as a marketing hook, but we believe in being transparent about what that means. In our industry, "lifetime" often refers to the manufacturer's definition, not forever. We provide a clear, robust warranty: an Ironclad 2-Year Labor Guarantee — most competitors only offer one year, but we stand behind our work. This is paired with a 5-Year Valve Warranty and a 10-Year Tank Warranty. Since final coverage depends on your specific equipment, we provide a simple written agreement which will be our firm promise to you.
Warranty summary: Equipment and control valves are commonly protected for around 5 years. Our workmanship is backed for **2 years** (double the industry average). Tanks are protected for **10 years**. Your final coverage is determined by the written agreement provided with your installation.
