Frisco’s finished water comes through Wylie

Frisco identifies the North Texas Municipal Water District as its wholesale supplier and the Wylie Water Treatment Plant as the treatment source for the city’s finished water.

The broader NTMWD source portfolio includes Lavon Lake and Bois d’Arc Lake as major sources, with additional water associated with Jim Chapman Lake, Lake Texoma, Lake Tawakoni and the East Fork Water Reuse Project. Not every source necessarily contributes equally to Frisco at all times, so the regional portfolio should not be confused with a fixed blend at one address.

Frisco’s own distribution system remains the correct municipal profile for local residual and compliance data.

Chloramine is normal; free chlorine is temporary

NTMWD normally uses chloramine as the secondary disinfectant. During annual spring maintenance, ammonia is temporarily suspended and free chlorine is used instead.

This explains why some Frisco homeowners notice a stronger chlorine-like taste or odor for several weeks even though the utility has not permanently changed treatment.

The distinction is also important for residential carbon:

• Free chlorine is generally easier for carbon to reduce.
• Chloramine requires more deliberate catalytic media selection and contact time.
• A filter sold from a generic “chlorine removal” claim should not automatically be assumed adequate for Frisco’s normal year-round disinfectant.

EWG’s profile raises a different question than Frisco’s CCR

Frisco’s current EWG profile identifies fifteen contaminants with utility averages above EWG-selected health guidelines. The list includes HAA5, HAA9, total trihalomethanes, chromium-6, chlorate, nitrate and several supplier-monitored compounds.

HAA5 has a federal MCL of 60 ppb. HAA9, the broader nine-compound group, has no federal MCL as a group. EWG applies benchmarks of 0.1 ppb for HAA5 and 0.06 ppb for HAA9.

That does not mean Frisco violated federal law. It means the regulatory system and EWG are answering different questions.

The city’s CCR tells the public whether enforceable requirements were met. EWG asks what the reported measurements look like against its much lower health-focused guidelines. A homeowner can accept the first answer and still decide that less disinfectant and a separate drinking-water barrier are worthwhile.

Why Frisco’s treatment package may look familiar

The three core household goals are not unique to Frisco: control calcium and magnesium scale throughout the house, reduce chloramine and selected treatment byproducts at whole-home flow, and treat drinking and cooking water more selectively at the kitchen. Sizing and design determine the actual performance.

1. Water Fixers Clarion Elite

Clarion Elite is selected around actual hardness, household consumption, resin volume and peak service flow. NTMWD generally characterizes its water as moderately hard, but a softener should not be programmed from a vague regional label. Current hardness at the property controls capacity and regeneration.

2. Water Fixers Carbonyx Elite

Carbonyx Elite is the catalytic carbon stage for Frisco’s normal chloramine condition. The meaningful question is not whether a tank contains carbon. It is whether the bed provides enough media depth, usable volume and empty-bed contact time at the home’s realistic flow.

3. Water Fixers ClaRO

ClaRO treats drinking and cooking water at the point of use. It is the more relevant stage when the homeowner wants broad dissolved-contaminant reduction, including compounds not reliably addressed by softening.

Frisco’s page should not become a growth brochure

Frisco’s rapid development, population and home values do not prove anything about one property’s plumbing or demand. A recently built home can still have limited drain access, a smaller service line, a complex recirculation layout or existing builder-installed equipment. An expensive house does not automatically justify the largest tank available. The useful local fact is the Wylie treatment relationship and normal chloramine condition. The property itself supplies the hydraulic details.
