Mesquite’s official hardness range matters

Mesquite receives treated surface water through the North Texas Municipal Water District’s Wylie system. The city’s official water-quality FAQ reports hardness from approximately 93 to 134 mg/L as calcium carbonate.

That equals about 5.44 to 7.84 grains per gallon. This is a very useful correction. Mesquite water is hard enough to create:

• fixture scale and shower-glass spotting;
• mineral deposits around aerators;
• reduced soap performance;
• buildup in water heaters.

However, it is not honestly described by an unsupported 9–13 gpg city claim. Correcting the range does not weaken the treatment case. It makes Clarion Elite sizing more credible and helps prevent needless oversizing or inefficient programming.

Mesquite’s local sampling is substantial

Mesquite reports collecting approximately 120 bacteriological samples each month from sites distributed throughout the city system. The city’s utility network includes hundreds of miles of water mains and tens of thousands of meters.

This local monitoring is separate from NTMWD supplier testing. The layers matter: NTMWD treats the regional water, Mesquite distributes and monitors it locally, and private plumbing and water heaters influence what an individual resident experiences after the meter.

Normal chloramine—not free chlorine—is the design condition

Mesquite’s materials explain that the city does not normally maintain a free-chlorine residual. NTMWD combines chlorine and ammonia to form chloramine for normal distribution. During annual maintenance, ammonia is temporarily suspended and free chlorine is used.

A stronger chlorine odor during maintenance does not mean free chlorine is the normal year-round condition. Carbonyx Elite should be designed primarily around chloramine, which generally requires more deliberate catalytic media and contact time than free chlorine.

EWG gives Mesquite a strong DBP profile

Mesquite’s current EWG profile reports:

• HAA5: approximately 17 ppb, compared with EWG’s 0.1 ppb guideline and the federal 60 ppb group limit;
• HAA9: approximately 26.8 ppb, compared with EWG’s 0.06 ppb guideline; HAA9 has no federal MCL as a group;
• TTHM: approximately 33.1 ppb, compared with EWG’s 0.15 ppb guideline and the federal 80 ppb group limit;
• nitrate: approximately 0.363 ppm, compared with EWG’s 0.14 ppm guideline and the federal 10 ppm limit;
• combined radium: approximately 0.5 pCi/L, compared with EWG’s 0.05 pCi/L benchmark and the federal 5 pCi/L limit.

The regulatory report and EWG profile are not contradicting each other. They are applying different standards. Mesquite can comply with enforceable public-water rules while a homeowner still wants less scale, less chloramine, lower whole-home exposure to detectable DBPs, and a more selective drinking-water barrier.

Carbonyx Elite addresses chloramine, taste, odor and appropriate organic-compound or DBP goals. Mesquite’s EWG HAA and TTHM profile creates a meaningful whole-home carbon rationale, but it does not justify a promise of total removal.

3. Kitchen Purifier via Water Fixers ClaRO™

ClaRO provides point-of-use treatment for nitrate, radium-related goals, TDS and selected dissolved constituents. It is the drinking-water stage—not a substitute for whole-home hardness or chloramine treatment.

Sediment and iron remain conditional

Mesquite’s regional surface-water profile does not automatically require Water Fixers TurbiClear or Water Fixers Ferrion. TurbiClear belongs where actual particulate loading is confirmed. Ferrion belongs where iron is verified.
