Northlake is not one uniform source-water system

Northlake’s own water-quality report explains that the town receives finished water from two regional suppliers:

• The southern portion of Northlake receives surface water supplied through the City of Fort Worth.
• Northern subdivisions receive finished water from the Upper Trinity Regional Water District, whose relevant source is Lake Lewisville.

Both suppliers use chloramine, and Northlake maintains chloramine within its distribution system. The town’s 2024 average residual was approximately 2.62 ppm, with results from 0.64–3.42 ppm.

That shared disinfectant does not make the two supplies identical.

Fort Worth’s 2024 secondary-constituent data listed total hardness from approximately 76.5–175 mg/L as calcium carbonate, or 5–10 grains per gallon. The UTRWD side has its own source-water chemistry and treatment history. A single townwide hardness claim would erase the most important local distinction on the page.

In Northlake, source zone is not a footnote. It is the first layer of the water profile.

What the town’s own distribution data shows

Northlake’s 2024 system table reported:

• HAA5: highest reported level of 8 ppb, with samples from 4.9–10.6 ppb
• TTHM: highest reported level of 22 ppb, with samples from nondetect to 31.3 ppb
• Nitrate as nitrogen: highest result of 1 ppm, with samples from 0.194–0.792 ppm
• Chloramine residual: average 2.62 ppm

The report also listed individual disinfection byproducts that do not have separate federal limits, including dichloroacetic acid, bromochloroacetic acid, chloroform and bromodichloromethane.

That matters because the federal system regulates some byproducts as groups. A homeowner reviewing only the HAA5 or TTHM group limit may never see how the individual compounds contribute to the total.

The EWG comparison adds a second lens

EWG’s Northlake profile reports:

• HAA5: 6.06 ppb compared with EWG’s 0.1 ppb guideline and the federal 60 ppb group limit
• TTHM: 10.8 ppb compared with EWG’s 0.15 ppb guideline and the federal 80 ppb group limit
• Dichloroacetic acid: 3.18 ppb compared with EWG’s 0.2 ppb guideline; no separate federal MCL applies to the individual compound
• Nitrate: 0.467 ppm compared with EWG’s 0.14 ppm guideline and the federal 10 ppm limit

The EWG averages use 2021–2023 data, while the town report above summarizes 2024. They answer related but different questions and should not be blended into one invented “current level.”

Northlake’s public system can remain legally compliant while a homeowner still chooses to reduce chloramine, treatment byproducts, hardness and selected drinking-water constituents more aggressively.

What Water Fixers DFW has encountered in Northlake

Water Fixers DFW has completed residential water-treatment work in Northlake.

The town’s fast growth and two-supplier structure make generic system programming especially weak. A home in a Fort Worth-supplied area should not be assigned a hardness setting borrowed from a northern UTRWD subdivision, and the reverse is equally careless.

The broad equipment architecture may be familiar across the town. The source interpretation and operating settings are not.

This is exactly the kind of place where a city page should do more than say “North Texas has hard water.” It should explain why two homes within the same town can begin with different regional supply profiles.
